In order to aid promising young musicians launch their professional careers on an international level, in 2013 the Fondation Père Lindsay developed and granted its first Fernand-Lindsay Career Award, worth $50,000, to a 20-year-old musician. The Fondation, in partnership with HEC Montréal, has created a new original workshop for ambitious young musicians who wish to acquire the knowledge and tools needed to manage, develop, and expand their career potential.

The Business and Career Program for Musicians has been designed to provide musicians with crucial skills and knowledge required to make the right decisions and achieve their true ambition: that of sharing their passion for music with a broad public. Upon completion of the course, students will have the necessary tools to embark on managing, improving and growing their own careers.

Project approach

Prior to the beginning of the program, students are encouraged to think and propose in writing a personal career project that is relevant to their musical aspirations. The essential goal of the project is to create a clear and decisive turning point in their careers. Examples of possible projects include the organization of a concert abroad or a concert tour, creation of an orchestra or festival, or even the founding of a school of music. Students will be assisted throughout the program to develop their individual projects as they learn to use their newfound body of knowledge. Interactions between the professors and the students will raise awareness of the wide range of concepts required in today’s highly competitive environment. Participants will acquire and use tools to define and carry out their projects.

The ultimate goal is for the participants to be able to launch their individual projects at the end of the program.
